There are three major sources for the study of ancient magic and ritual practice:

    1. Artefacts from the archaeological record
    2. Ritual Manuals
    3. Literary sources

My work is focused on the Greek, Latin, Demotic, and Coptic sources dating from the first to the seventh century and comprising the Roman Empire with all of its provinces. This includes about over 6.000 inscribed artefacts and more than 100 ritual manuals. A comprehensive, systematic compilation of the literary sources is still a research gap.
